My name is Caroline Whitaker and I am from Enterprise, Alabama but just moved to Nashville, TN. I am a recent UAB graduate and have a degree in art studio with a concentration in graphic design.

I enjoy both physical and digital collage. I find it to be a way to organize my thoughts and let my imagination take over. One of my favorite things to do through my art is tell a visual story and I feel like a collage can be the perfect synopsis of a project. My favorite part of a project is coming up with the concept. It is the time in the project where the possibilities are truly endless and anything can happen. Brainstorming and building a detailed story is what really solidifies a brand and project in my opinion.

I like to explore themes, ideas and concepts such as space, home, femininity and nostalgia. The magic and possibility of outer space has always captivated me. Within the theme of home I am interested in an eclectic cluttered hand drawn aesthetic and the feeling of belonging and safety. Nostalgia is something I almost struggle with, I am attached to my home and my family but also feel a new sense of urgency to grow and evolve on my own. I express this through a preference for vintage found items and photographs. The concept of femininity is a newer realization I’ve come to within my art. I often find inspiration in the women around me and women in pop culture and like to explore the idea of alternative expressions of femininity.

I am heavily inspired by pop culture and music. Music, specifically country music, was a staple in my home growing up. Music has always been a remedy for me and a way to escape. When I find a song, album or artist that I connect with it often sparks creativity and becomes the soundtrack to my life for that moment in time.
